Do It For Peace. An exhibition by Agugn

"Menyebar luaskan pesan kedamaian lewat karya seni."
"Spread the message of peace through art."

The Deus Gallery in Bali opened another exciting show by a transplant from Bandung, an artist that goes by the name of Agugn. Art has always been Agugn’s way of dealing with his demons. A cathartic process where he gets to lay bare his fears and insecurities and exorcized them through equal measures of embracing and compelling it to be reborn into something new.

This series of work is something that he's been working on for quite some time. In 2017 he had originally had an idea for as a wall mural. Well, the sketches piled up and the ideas diversified until rather than cohesive elements that would be strung together for a single piece he ended up with an entire show. The idea comes from a song lyric “Is there anything worth more than peace & love on planet earth?” it is, of all things, a soundtrack from a kid's cartoon series called Steven Universe he used to hear as a child.

A little further in, and before it had gone from mural to show, Agugn was still in the process of conceptualizing the entire idea, when he heard one of John Lennon's interviews from 1969 (I met the Walrus) about peace. In the interview, he heard John say… “Peace is not something you wish for; It’s something you make, something you do, something you are, and something you give away.”

It was a bit of a slam dunk after that.
