Deus Swank Rally X Wheels & Waves 2021: A Sandy Edition
The keyword of the third edition of the Swank Rally for Wheels & Waves 2021 was one: Sand. Lots and lots of sand; and when you are on your bike, sand means fun: lots of fun and also a lot of hard work.
The big news this year was in fact the new location that meant we abandoned the muddy ups and downs of the Sain-Pée-Sur-Nivelle track for the sandy terrain of the Bud racing Training Camp in Magescq.
The first part of the track that was hard terrain put the riders to the test with cross-style jumps. From there it slipped into a pine forest where 2 km of soft sand gave spectacular shots to photographers and a few problems for those who didn't have the right tyre studs. Hats off to the rider on an original 1943 Harley Davidson who managed to finish the entire course. As in every Swank Rally, the bikes that took part were part of the show.
Racing on sand was certainly a novelty for many, while some found themselves particularly at ease. It is no coincidence that these riders are well-known names: Camille Chapeliere (Dakar driver, winner of the French Sand Championship and winner of the Touquet) and Jean-Claude Mousse (four times winner of the Touquet), in short, riders who have sand in their blood.
This 10th edition of Wheels and Waves was - due to anti-covid regulations - certainly more intimate than in previous years, but there was no shortage of the friends and riders that we usually meet up with during the festival. The smaller setting has indeed given greater prominence to the welcoming atmosphere that characterizes the Festival, where you can clearly see how passion unites the faithful from all over Europe.

Le mot clef de cette troisième édition du Deus Swank Rally au Wheels & Waves 2021, c’était: le sable.
Énormément de sable, encore et encore, et quand vous êtes sur votre moto, le sable ça rime avec fun: beaucoup de fun et aussi pas mal d’efforts.
La grosse nouveauté cette année, c’est le nouveau spot. Vous l’avez compris, nous avons abandonné les collines boueuses et sinueuses de Saint-Pée-Sur-Nivelle, pour le terrain ensablé de Bud Racing Training Camp à Magescq.
La première portion de la piste a mis les participants à l’épreuve avec quelques petits sauts acrobatiques. En suivant on leur a réservé 2 km de piste ensablée qui nous ont permis de prendre quelques photos sympathiques, mais causé quelques problèmes à ceux qui n’avaient pas prévu les pneus à crampons. D’ailleurs respect à celui qui a roulé (et finit) avec la Harley Davidson de 1943. Comme à chaque fois, toutes les motos qui participent au Swank Rally font le show.
Rouler sur le sable était probablement une nouveauté pour beaucoup, mais nous vous avons tous sentis très à l’aise. Mettons nous d’accord, on a bien rit!
Ce n’est pas un hasard si des pilotes comme Camille Chapelière (pilote du Dakar, vainqueur du Touquet) et Jean-Claude Moussé (4 fois vainqueur du Touquet) ont pointé le bout de leur nez.
Cette 10ème édition du Wheels and Waves était - en raison de la réglementation anti-covid - certes plus intime que les années précédentes, mais tous nos amis étaient là. Le format plus petit a fait naître une atmosphère accueillante dans laquelle tous les fidèles de l’Europe se sont réunis.
